Brazilian state-controlled oil company Petrobras has initiated direct negotiations with the government of Ghana to secure exploration contracts for four offshore blocks. This move aligns with the producer’s strategy to expand its international frontier exploration portfolio and replenish its oil and gas reserves.
Ghana’s Ministry of Energy and Green Transition approved the company’s application to negotiate for the blocks, which are situated in the offshore Keta basin. This approval paves the way for formal discussions regarding the terms of the potential exploration agreements.
At this stage, Petrobras has not revealed the specific block numbers, its targeted ownership stakes, or any slated exploration investments.
The company stated that seeking new opportunities abroad is part of a broader effort to diversify its exploration assets and secure long-term resource development. The negotiations remain in the early phases, and the acquisition of exploration rights is contingent upon reaching a final contract agreement.
