SLB has launched a new liquid mud facility in Pemba, Mozambique, boosting its ability to process, store, and supply drilling and completion fluids for offshore energy projects.
Featuring a starting storage volume of 21,000 bbl, the site is built to serve several clients as regional offshore operations scale up. By offering local fluid storage and processing, the facility enhances supply chain efficiency and adaptability for marine drilling operations.
This investment scales up SLB’s local infrastructure for drilling and completion fluids, offering additional space to expand as market needs increase.
“As SLB celebrates 70 years in Mozambique, this investment highlights our faith in the nation’s energy future and our dedication to advancing its goals,” stated Miguel Baptista, SLB’s managing director for Central, East, and Southern Africa.
Local labor played a major role in the facility’s development. Over 100 positions were generated during the build and testing phases, with Mozambican workers filling about 80% of the roles.
The company completed the build with over 67,000 working hours logged without any recordable safety events.
The opening aligns with SLB’s 70-year milestone in the country, reinforcing its capacity to back offshore drilling and completion efforts using regional assets and specialized equipment.
