Helmerich & Payne (H&P) is set to expand its collaboration with ExxonMobil by deploying seven more FlexRobotics systems over the next year. This expansion will increase the total number of H&P automated drilling systems utilized by ExxonMobil to nine, following successful initial runs of the first two systems.
The FlexRobotics technology automates routine rig-floor tasks to minimize human exposure to hazardous environments while enhancing drilling consistency and precision.
“Expanding the deployment of our FlexRobotics technology demonstrates the value automation can deliver in modern drilling operations,” said Trey Adams, President and CEO of H&P. “We are pleased to expand our collaboration with ExxonMobil and to help scale FlexRobotics technology across their operations.”
ExxonMobil indicated that the decision to scale up the technology stems from positive outcomes during the initial phase, aligning with its strategic goal to integrate advanced automation into its drilling practices.
“We’re focused on expanding the deployment of technologies that make our operations safer, more efficient and more consistent,” stated Bart Cahir, Senior Vice President of ExxonMobil Unconventional. “Expanding the use of FlexRobotics builds on what we’ve learned from our initial deployments and is another example of how we’re using automation to improve drilling performance.”
H&P has not revealed the financial details of the agreement or the specific locations of the rigs that will receive the new automated systems.
