ExxonMobil has leveraged artificial intelligence and advanced subsurface technologies to pinpoint four new exploration prospects within Guyana’s Stabroek Block, marking a further expansion of its offshore drilling initiatives.
By integrating machine learning, deep learning, high-performance computing, and sophisticated seismic imaging, the operator is analyzing historical discoveries, previous drilling outcomes, and subsurface data to optimize its exploration decisions and uncover potential hydrocarbon reserves.
Earlier this year, John Ardill, ExxonMobil’s Vice President of Exploration, noted that the company is increasingly utilizing these digital tools to interpret seismic data and evaluate complex prospects that were previously difficult to assess.
This AI-assisted exploration coincides with active offshore drilling operations in Guyana, which currently include the Whiptail development and the Rockhead-1 exploration well.
Concurrently, ExxonMobil is advancing future development strategies for the Stabroek Block. The company recently applied for environmental permits for the Haimara gas-condensate project and proposed a new 35-well drilling program scheduled to run from 2028 to 2033.
Driven by consecutive discoveries in the Stabroek Block, Guyana has become a key driver of global offshore oil growth. The nation aims to reach a daily crude production capacity of roughly 1.3 million barrels by 2027, rising to 1.7 million barrels by 2030.
ExxonMobil’s deployment of AI and advanced seismic modeling is designed to refine the assessment of remaining offshore prospects as development and drilling activities accelerate across the basin.
