**Petrobras Secures New Deepwater Gas Discovery Offshore Colombia**
Petrobras has officially confirmed a new natural gas discovery in the deepwater GUA-OFF-0 Block offshore Colombia. The find was made at the Sandia-1 exploratory well, marking another key addition to the company’s expanding gas portfolio in the region.
Located roughly 42 kilometers (26 miles) offshore in water depths of 1,251 meters (4,104 feet), the Sandia-1 well intersected gas-bearing zones. Petrobras is currently evaluating these intervals using well-logging techniques, with subsequent laboratory testing scheduled to fully characterize the reservoir.
The Sandia-1 well is situated in a highly prospective area of Colombia’s Caribbean basin, sitting just 18 kilometers from the Sirius-1 discovery and Sirius-2 appraisal wells, and about 9 kilometers from the Copoazu-1 find. Drilling operations for the well commenced on June 12 and reached its final depth on July 29.
This latest success bolsters a string of recent exploration victories in the block and is anticipated to underpin future development projects aimed at securing Colombia’s long-term natural gas supply. Petrobras noted that the discovery fits its broader corporate strategy of targeting frontier basins to replenish its oil and gas reserves alongside strategic partners.
The GUA-OFF-0 Block is operated by Petrobras, through its subsidiary Petrobras International Braspetro B.V. – Sucursal Colombia, which holds a 44.44% working interest. Colombia’s state-owned Ecopetrol holds the remaining 55.56% interest.
