Aquaterra Energy has successfully completed the initial phase of an expedited offshore platform project in Nigeria for local oil and gas firm Emadeb Energy. By designing and fabricating a subsea template in just six months, Aquaterra has enabled drilling operations to commence while platform fabrication remains underway.
The overall development encompasses a conductor-supported platform that will collect wellhead production and route it to an adjacent mobile offshore production unit (MOPU) for processing and export. During the second phase, scheduled for late 2026, the complete platform structure will be placed over the pre-drilled wellheads. The entire lifecycle—spanning engineering, construction, drilling, and final installation—is projected to take 15 months.
To accelerate the timeline, the design incorporates a streamlined topside and integrates proven elements from Aquaterra’s Sea Swift platform series to reduce engineering delays. Local Nigerian facilities are currently fabricating the remaining components of the platform.
Edward Betts, head of Aquaterra’s offshore developments business unit, noted that deploying the subsea template early allows drilling to proceed concurrently with ongoing structural fabrication.
Adebowale Olujimi, Group CEO of Emadeb, highlighted that the initiative represents a significant milestone in advancing the company’s upstream assets and strengthening its role as a prominent domestic energy producer.
