Chevron has discovered oil and gas condensate in Block 0 offshore Angola, encountering over 300 feet of net pay. The find was made via the 105-4X exploration well in the Lower Congo basin, which hit an oil and gas condensate column of more than 2,000 feet in the primary Pinda reservoir. Chevron plans to evaluate the discovery for a potential tie-back development to nearby existing infrastructure to ensure a capital-efficient production route.
Cabinda Gulf Oil Company Ltd. (CABGOC), a Chevron subsidiary, operates Block 0 with a 39.2% working interest, alongside partners Sonangol E&P (41%), TotalEnergies (10%), and Azule Energy (9.8%).
This discovery aligns with Chevron’s broader exploration strategy in Sub-Saharan Africa, where it currently produces roughly 300,000 net barrels of oil equivalent per day. The company’s regional activities include acquiring offshore acreage and securing three near-field exploration successes in Nigeria, expanding its footprint in Guinea-Bissau and Equatorial Guinea, and pursuing further exploration offshore Angola in Blocks 49, 50, 33, and 14/23. Additionally, Chevron is preparing for a regional multi-well campaign, which includes drilling the Nabba-1X exploration well offshore Namibia by late 2026.
